Facial Baking Soda - My Personal Review

Sunday, August 2, 2009
Yes, the best things in life do not have to be expensive. It can be free, but mostly it can be cheap. You will be pleasantly delighted when you find that the baking soda that is used for cooking purposes, can be used for your face. I have been thinking and procrastinating about posting a personal review on this great use of baking soda for the face, and I don't know why.

I think maybe I just want the best of baking soda for myself, but who knows. To tell you a bit about baking soda, I recommend that you go to the kitchen or bug your mother or whoever that holds the kitchen duty seriously. Trust me, that person will be able to direct you to the jar of baking soda before I even finish typing this sentence.

For those of you who have kitchens but don't really see the need to use them and don't really have private chefs working on them, you may not be so lucky. Let me grab a photo of the good old baking soda for your eyes only.
Facial Baking Soda

Try not to confuse baking soda with baking powder as the latter is acidic and drying. You do not want to be using baking powder for any facial treatment at all. Write that down. Baking soda is purely sodium bicarbonate or NaHCO3.

Since this is my personal review, I can't say that the use of baking soda will give the best positive effects for everybody. I have very oily T-zone and dry spots around my cheeks. When I say that my face is oily, it is really oily. It gets oily in a matter of seconds after I wash it. It is like an oil factory. I could make millions if the oil on my face has the same value as the oil in Saudi Arabia.

For the purpose of writing about my experience with baking soda, right before I started typing I have made a mixture of it and rubbed it gently all over my face. The mixture of the baking soda can be prepared easily. You do not need to so obsessive-compulsive about getting the right amount of baking soda or water to be mixed together. What you need is a practical brain.

Get some of the baking soda, say, a small spoon of it on the palm of your left hand and use your right hand to take some drops of water to turn the whole thing into a paste just nice to be put on your face.

So, right now, I am actually typing and looking like this but not as cute or half-dressed:

Facial Baking Soda - My Personal Review

Though that's not really me, but that is basically how you will look like as the baking soda dries on your face. You must let the whole mask of baking soda dry properly on your face before you gently wash it off.

I have mine on, for already close to 15 minutes. You can touch your face and feel it when it is already dried. If this is your first time trying baking soda for your face, expect some amount of burning sensation when you first apply it on your face. As it dries, you will notice that the tingling sensation goes away. There is no need to call the paramedics for this.

Try not to talk or move your jaw during the process. Right now, I think mine has dried up just nicely, and so I will head to the bathroom to wash the baking soda off with cold water. You can exfoliate gently as you do this. Towel dry with a clean facial towel and ask yourself if you feel that the baking soda has done good to your skin.

For me, I immediately experience a nice pore-tightening effect. I have been blessed with large pores. My face looks brighter and the baking soda's cleansing and exfoliating effect on my skin is evident as I run my fingers on my face and feel that it is extremely free from oil (most importantly). This too is a blessing as I can't get my regular facial cleanser to give this mind-blowing similar result.

So, what are the positive effects we can hope to get from the regular use of baking soda on the face?

1. Since baking soda are tiny sand-like particles, it's great as an exfoliating agent. It helps to get rid of the layer of dead skin cell on your face that if left accumulated overtime gives you that dull, and less radiant look. Regular use will give you a much brighter complexion.

2. Baking soda is mildly alkaline which is most suitable for the skin of your face. I have pimple trouble just like many of you who are reading this. I can tell you confidently that it helps with my pimples. I don't have much break-outs anymore. This is not scientifically proven, though.

3. If you have redness due to acne problems, there is a fat chance that the use of baking soda regularly will help reduce the appearance of redness and make you look less like a clown.

4. Baking soda is environmental-friendly as it does not contain harsh chemicals that may be present in your soaps and facial cleansers. If you want to be actively protecting the environment from the lunacy of our species, the use of baking soda regularly will be a statement for that.

5. If you have facial oil overproduction capacity that makes a joke out of the global oil dilemma, you will benefit most through the regular use of baking soda. I am the living proof of that.

I hope you'll enjoy experimenting with baking soda and get the best results out of it. Come on, it is cheap. You don't need to be stingy.

Tell me how it works for your face. :)

The Advantages Of Chickpea Flour And Turmeric For Facial Treatment

Advantages of Chickpea Flour and Turmeric for Facial Treatment

Hello. It is me again. I realized that I forgot to mention about the benefits of using chickpea flour with turmeric for your face. So now that I am here, I will share them with you. As everybody knows, we put things on our faces so that they will do them some good. So here are the good things about using chickpea flour.

It really is a gentle skin exfoliater, so that when you are trying to wash the paste off your face, you can actually use your fingers and gently rub your face in a upward circling motion. It stimulates the blood circulation of your face and at the same time rejuvenates your skin cells. Notice that even after the first application, your facial skin will look much fairer and it really helps in removing dead skin cells that stop your skin from looking brighter and young.

Now, lets move to the beauty benefits of turmeric. Using turmeric powder to combine with your other ingredients in a facial mask helps the skin to become clearer and radiant. Turmeric also reduces skin infections and gives them a natural glow. If you are of a lighter skin tone, make sure to mix only a very small amount of the turmeric powder as the it can actually stain your skin with a slight yellow-tangerine colour. For darker skin tones, it is alright if you use a little bit more of the turmeric powder. Do this according to your personal preference. Apart from that, using turmeric will help to lighten scars caused by acne and even out skin discoloration.

I hope that you will try to incorporate these herbal inexpensive ingredients into your skin care routine. You know your skin best and use these home herbal facials wisely as they may not be necessarily the best for everybody.

Take Care. Keep on smiling :)

Experimental Home Made Facials

Experimental Home Made Facials
Lately I have been obsessed with home made remedies for my oily face. With oily face, it is natural if I complain of my open large pores. It is really a problem to me because I am the one person who sees details and when I see these sort of details on my facial skin, I freak out. I have blemishes, though not so acne prone these days, and some skin discoloration or uneven skin tone. Sometimes I get zits, but not as bad as the last flare-up I had last year.

Don't you want to know what triggered that flare up of crazy red pimples with crazy zits? I will tell you. At that period of time, I was already stressed, emotionally but any health care article would say that stress alone will not be the big factor here. It could be a contributing factor, but not the Mother of all Factors. It plays with your immune system, gets it all lame and stupid. So, stress could have slowed down the healing process.

Did I tell you: My skin is of the combination type: oily T-zone with dryness around the cheek area. What I should not have done was, to use a couple of weird creams and strong toner on my face. If I can pin-point to what was the direct cause, it would that darn alcohol-toner that my mother was using that I decided to use too! Wrong move.

NEVER EVER use alcohol based toner on a combination skin. At least, from my personal experience, it had cause a very blown-up horrible break out that to this day, I still shudder when I think of it. The key here is, try not to be such a creative freak by using a bunch of face products that you do not know what the contents are. Seriously, I know of some people who think that the more stuff that they put on their face, the better the skin would appear. It is an Illusion!

It's just some twisted sense there, influenced by silly advertisements and female craziness. Okay scratch the last two words. Im kidding. But really, say you're staying with a friend who is crazy over make up and facial products and keep buying them every chance he/she has. Don't tell me you wont get influenced, because you will. One day you WILL put some of that facial mask she bought. Next day, you will apply some of his face cream. Then, you will take some of his facial scrub. And on and on. UNTIL you have successfully destroyed your skin. THEN you will stop.

Fact: What people do not realize is, each individual's skin type is unique. If your friend's skin is the dry-normal type and yours is a straight combination-oily type, and you keep using his or her stuff, Please, DO NOT BLAME YOUR FRIEND, for not warning you to not put his or her Clinique Dramatically-Different Moisturizing Cream on your face.

That was what happened to me. I started to get depressed looking at my acne-triggered face, and before I could stop myself, I was ready to blame my poor poor mom. That was besides the point.

Point is, I move on to Home made products.

So, after my skin cleared up, I started to use baking soda face mask/scrub. Seriously, for oily skin, it works wonders. It also helps to tighten pores, just after one application, you can see the difference.

I am saying baking soda as in Sodium Bicarbonate, not the other type you use to bake cookies or cake. There is a huge difference there. So, keep this in mind. Sodium Bicarb does not dry up your skin as it has a neutral pH, and it also stimulates the growth of new layer of young skin cells.

Another thing I use, quite often these days is Chickpea with Turmeric Mask. This is also good for oily skin, so you oily people MUST try this. Chickpea flour is also called Gram or Dhal flour. You can get it at any supermarket near the herbs and spices corner. Bring your mom or aunt, when you go shopping. It's used in Indian cooking. Turmeric? Its another spice, that is used in cooking too. What I do is, I take 2 table spoons of Chickpea flour and like 1/4 teaspoon of Turmeric and mix it with water. Just like that. Apply the mask on your face and let it dry.

I'll end it right here. My back is killing me. See you in the next post then. Till then, take care. Smile.
