The Book That I Thoroughly Loathed To Bits

Tuesday, August 2, 2011
I am a literature addict. But as with many types of word junkies out there, I find pleasure in reading a certain style of writing that is tight-to-the-point, lyrical and poetic when it's needed, but never too totally or partially shamelessly self-absorbed. Unless it's a personal blog online or a teenage journal.

Sunday, January 24, 2010
In ReverieMy Reverie is the name of my blog, as you have already known by now. I know I have yet to share the story behind the reason behind this particular choice with you. Well, I am going to do just that in this post. I’ve been procrastinating mainly because, well I have just been a bum.

My Game Of Word-Play

My Game of Word-Play

If you have been reading or stalking me for some time, you would have realized that I call writing skills or abilities as Word-Play.

I indulge in two approaches of Word-Play whenever I am on a writing-roll or when I have nothing at all to write about. One method is through preconceived ideas that I have already thought about in my head. In this approach of writing, I have an idea or subject carved clearly in the rocks of my mind.

I will show you the word-play from an idea that I have thought about for a while or actually this morning, as I was rolling sleepless in my bed.

Word-Play 1 : Those policemen who stood by looking and doing nothing while watching the disrespectful acts of men who were not happy about the building of another religion religious sacred ground, should put themselves in the shoes of the people whose religion was being made a mockery.

In this sentence, I used the first type of word play, writing with an idea that has formed a concrete structure in my mind and letting words to wrap around the idea.

In the next approach, which I use every time my hands feel like typing something, but my head is void of any specific idea. It is sort of a favorite approach of mine, where I let the words to come out as I my hands aimlessly type any words before an actual whole idea forms in my head. It is also called 'aimless scribble', which can turn into a really good story, if you use it well with creative imagination.

Word-Play2: It is a white haze of blur that washes over her as she buries her dead pet-fish at the small patch of soil, preserved for this kind of gloomy occasion.

Now, as a reader, when you read both of the two sentences that come from two different word-play approaches, you will not actually know the difference between the two as you are not given the gift of reading my mind whilst I construct those sentences, apart from noticing the differences in the subject matter used. (obviously)

The point I am making here is: There are so many ways that you can let your thoughts flow in order to have finally gotten some word-flow going on as you squeeze the juice of your brains out to finish an essay assignment, mindless blog write-up, or an absolutely waste-of-time scribble that nobody will read.

Word Meditation

Word Meditation
It has been raining, water and dusts all mixed together. The heat has vanished, along with the mixed feelings that you have felt, a few days back. The cat is sleeping, the house is silent, the dogs are't barking, nobody is talking.

There are words, when spoken they make up a sentence that can kill the soul or the life of your spirit. You start to fall, a very long, distant fall to the bottom pit you will not be able to reach. Your mind and senses shut off.

Then, comes the stilness. You are in the dark, and the only light that shines, comes from the innermost center of your heart. The heart bleeds, your skin is tainted by salty crystals. You lie down stuck. You are moving yet there are no movements visible to the sight of another person watching.

You dream, a dream of dreams with no recollections of reality in between periods of wakefulness. If you hold out your hand to the wall, it slips through. If you raise your legs to stretch, you are flying.

Out of control. Like the eye of the tornado, it spins. You are not your body, your mind is in a drift. It drifts, your body leaves, you are suspended mid-air just watching another body down below. Unreacting.

My Umm mm.. Rusty Writing?

Rusty Writing

I have been thinking about writing something engaging but seriously when I do pick up the imaginary pen here on Blogger I am stumped. I have a compromised flow of ideas. My sentence comes out jagged and when that happens I stop in the middle of a sentence, slightly annoyed and baffled, unable to move forward.

It is the writer's block they say. Okay, let's just try a topic. What should I write about.

I don't fancy insects and when they come flying out of nowhere right into my face or near the periphery of my vision, you will mostly hear a house-of-horror sort of scream that will definitely annoy you to bits.

Trust when I say that I am not much of a noise maker, but when I scream due to fits of fear of these creepy crawly beings I am really loud. My sister has a huge fear of spiders. So when I get freaked out because of the presence of a certain spider at the corner of a ceiling or near a wall or on the floor, she claims that my scream gives her a heart attack more than anything.

My freaking out, freaks her. So it seems.

The same thing did occur just yesterday when she needed me and mom to help her clean up her freaky looking disgustingly dirty new place of stay. A tiny insect was flying and it kept flying around me. Earlier we were all freaked out from a white moth looking thing, so I was a bit charged up. So when this tiny insect kept flying around me, I screamed.

And my sister? She screamed at me! Then I screamed at her for screaming at me. And then, she had the audacity to ask me to stop doing that; screaming when I am freaking out, because it makes her go crazy. Did I just scream on purpose? NO. So, I told her: I am not screaming on purpose so please lay off of me.

There is no point in this story really. I am just trying to gauge my flow of ideas, and word-play that has been a little rusty these days.
